A menu for every age
Their needs change as they grow
Puppy: More divided ration and suitable growth food to support development without excess energy.
Adult: Two meals per day with a balanced diet adjusted to physical activity and body condition.
Senior: Energy intake to be reassessed according to mobility, with monitoring of weight and joint comfort.
Which food?
Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?
High-quality kibble for an active medium-sized dog generally provides a practical and consistent base. The ration should prioritize good-quality animal proteins and an energy intake adapted to its pace of life.
Portion sizes
How much should you feed?
The daily amount varies according to weight, activity, age and the energy density of the food. It is preferable to adjust the ration with the veterinarian rather than follow a single figure.
| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
|---|---|---|
| 10 - 12 kg | 160 - 200 g | 2 |
| 12 - 15 kg | 190 - 240 g | 2 |
Changing food
How to switch foods successfully
Any change of food must be gradual over several days in order to limit digestive upsets. A gentle transition makes it possible to observe the dog's tolerance and to adjust the new ration without upsetting its system.
Hydration
Don't overlook water
The Puli must always have access to clean, fresh water, especially after exercise or in hot weather. Good hydration also contributes to its overall comfort and recovery.
A little extra
Treats in moderation
Treats can be useful for training and motivation, but they must remain occasional and be included in the calculation of the daily ration. It is better to favor simple and digestible rewards.
Good habits
Make mealtimes count
- Split the daily ration into 2 meals.
- Weigh portions regularly to avoid discrepancies.
- Adjust energy intake to the dog's actual expenditure.
- Monitor body condition throughout the year.
Never feed these foods
As with other dogs, it is necessary to avoid in particular chocolate, grapes, onion, garlic, alcohol, xylitol, cooked bones and very fatty foods, as they can cause poisoning, severe digestive disorders or neurological damage.
