What to look out for
Monitoring should mainly focus on the joints and the ears. A dog bought from a reputable breeder with screened breeding dogs, kept at a proper weight and followed regularly, has a good chance of maintaining a good quality of life over time.
Hip dysplasia: A joint malformation that can cause pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility, especially if weight and activity are not well managed.
Elbow dysplasia: A developmental elbow condition likely to cause lameness and discomfort, with particular emphasis on screening in breeding dogs.

Which vaccines does a Posavac Hound need? Like all dogs, Posavac Hounds should receive their core vaccines from 8 weeks of age: CHPPi (core vaccine) and Leptospirosis. Puppies receive their initial Posavac Hound vaccinations in several shots spaced 4 weeks apart, followed by a first booster at 1 year. Depending on their lifestyle (hunting, hiking, boarding, travel, region), your veterinarian may add vaccines against Rabies, Kennel cough, Piroplasmosis, Lyme disease and Leishmaniasis.
