Origins

Where does it come from?

The Istrian Short-haired Hound is an ancient Croatian breed originating from the white hunting dog with markings of the Eastern Adriatic. Old descriptions appear in a manuscript kept in a Franciscan monastery in Dubrovnik in the 14th century, then in other Croatian historical sources. The breed is also depicted in a painting dated 1474 near Beram. Its standard was published by the FCI on 2 April 1955.

Appearance

What does it look like?

This medium-sized scenthound has a noble, slender and powerful silhouette, without heaviness. Its body is harmoniously built, with a firm back, a muscular loin, a deep chest and a tail carried in a sabre shape. The head is elongated and elegant, the ears are pendulous and triangular, and the dark brown oval eyes express liveliness. The coat is snow white with orange markings, covered with a short, fine, close and shiny hair.
