The Podenco Ibicenco originates from the Balearic Islands, especially Ibiza, but also Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera. A very ancient breed, it was selected for hunting rabbits and hares without weapons, by day as well as by night, thanks to its speed, sight, scent and hearing. Over time, it also spread to the Spanish mainland, notably in Catalonia and in the Valencia region, then into the south of France.

The Podenco Ibicenco is a medium-sized dog, lean, harmonious and slightly longer than tall. Its head is long and fine, its ears are large, erect and very mobile, and its almond-shaped eyes often show an amber hue. The chest is deep but narrow, the tail long and the gait supple and fast. The coat can be smooth, wire or long, most often white and red, sometimes solid white or red.
