Even if the breed does not show any particular notable fragility in the available references, regular vigilance remains useful regarding the condition of the drooping ears, paw pads, teeth and weight, especially in a dog that is less active than expected for its profile.
Hip dysplasia: Like many dogs, the Halden Hound can have a joint malformation that promotes pain and osteoarthritis, especially in cases of overweight.
Eye conditions: An ophthalmological examination of breeding dogs and monitoring for tearing or vision issues remain useful.
Otitis and skin allergies: Itching, redness, or dirty ears should be checked, especially if the dog works in dense cover.
