A menu for every age
Needs change over time
Puppy : Small-breed growth food, in three to four meals until six months.
Adult : Two weighed meals, adapted to the ideal weight.
Senior : Digestible, lower-calorie food, with dental monitoring.
Which food?
Kibble, wet food, or home-cooked diet?
Premium kibble for small dogs, with small-sized bites, is suitable. Wet food can complement it, provided it remains balanced and dental hygiene is monitored.
Amounts
How much should you give?
The ration depends on weight, age and activity. It must be weighed and divided into two meals, or even three for very small individuals.
| Weight | Daily amount | Meals/day |
|---|---|---|
| 2 - 3 kg | 40 - 60 g | 2 - 3 |
| 3 - 4 kg | 55 - 75 g | 2 |
| 4 - 5 kg | 70 - 90 g | 2 |
Change
Managing the food transition
Change food gradually over about a week to avoid digestive disorders.
Hydration
Water: do not overlook it
Fresh water must remain available at all times. The hairs around the mouth are cleaned after meals.
Little extras
Treats, in moderation
Treats should be tiny and counted in the ration, because a few grams quickly represent an excess for a 3 kg dog.
Good habits
For a top-notch bowl
- Choose small-sized kibble.
- Clean the beard after meals.
- Count each treat in the ration.
Never give
Chocolate, grapes, onion, garlic, xylitol, alcohol and cooked bones should be avoided, as for all dogs.
