Pierpoint

Pierpoint in Jelling has been breeding Irish Wolfhounds since 1993. Interest in the breed began after meeting the first Irish Wolfhound in 1983, and after around ten years of immersion, the first litter arrived. So far, 21 litters of Irish Wolfhounds have been born under the kennel name. The breeding programme places primary emphasis on temperament, health and breed type. Pierpoint previously exhibited frequently and achieved 24 championship titles, but titles are no longer the decisive goal. The dogs must also retain their well-being, good looks and type well into old age. The breeding programme still occasionally participates in shows. Pierpoint is a DKK-trained breeder and continues to offer guidance to puppy buyers. The sighthounds are kept active, among other things, with K9 Lifeskills, lure coursing or track racing rather than hunting. From 1 September 2025, breeding requirements for cardiac scanning of parent animals before breeding apply; the scanning age is two years. Buyers are encouraged to ask for documentation of cardiac scanning and shunt testing of puppies.
