Friia in Næstved works with Flat-Coated Retrievers, focusing on the breed’s qualities as a whole. The breeding programme places emphasis on a dog in which working abilities, temperament and a well-functioning conformation go hand in hand, so that the breed’s character is preserved in a harmonious whole. Physical and mental health are central to the ideal. The dogs should appear stylish and move freely, while also having a stable and good temperament. Trainability, willingness to cooperate and a natural desire for hunting work, as well as the ability to find game, are important qualities. A sound temperament is regarded as the foundation for a Flat-Coated Retriever to function both in hunting and in the family. To strengthen the breeding foundation, Friia has since 1989 imported six Retrievers from English working lines, thereby introducing new blood into the work with the breed.
