E`Nobili Loco Fragopole

E`Nobili Loco Fragopole is dedicated in Villingen-Schwenningen to the Petit Chien Lion, a dog breed with a long history rooted in France. Historical depictions of small lion-like dogs can already be found at Amiens Cathedral from the 13th century. The characteristic silhouette of the breed also appears in 15th-century tapestries. The Petit Chien Lion was esteemed by court ladies in Burgundy and was also depicted in 17th-century paintings. In the 18th century, both Buffon in his “Histoire naturelle” and the Swedish naturalist Linné described this rare dog. At that time, it was also known by the name “Bichon Petit Chien Lion”. The history of the breed is likewise connected with its French club, whose founding is dated to 18 November 1847.
