Kibble, wet food, or home-cooked diet?
A complete, high-quality diet, formulated for a large active dog, must provide proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals in balanced proportions. Its energy density must be adapted to the intensity of its activities.
Amounts
How much should you give?
The daily amount must be determined according to weight, age, body condition and exercise level. It should be adjusted between periods of high activity, notably hunting, and calmer phases, following the recommendations of the food and the veterinarian.

Managing the food transition
Any change in diet must be gradual in order to limit digestive upsets, by mixing the old and the new food over several days.

Water: do not overlook it
Fresh, clean water must remain available at all times, with increased attention after long walks, tracking, hunting and in hot weather.
Little extras
Treats, in moderation
Treats can be used as a reward during training, but their intake must remain moderate and be deducted from the daily ration to avoid an excess of calories.
Good habits

- Adjust the ration to the age, weight, size and level of exercise.
- Regularly monitor the body shape and adjust the intake if activity decreases.
- Avoid a large meal just before or just after intense exertion.
- Count treats in the daily energy intake.
Never give
Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion, garlic in large quantities, xylitol, alcohol, caffeine, macadamia nuts and cooked bones should be avoided, as they can cause poisoning or serious digestive lesions in dogs.
