Origins

Where does it come from?

The origins of the Siamese go back to the kingdom of Siam, present-day Thailand, where ancient manuscripts already described cats with characteristics close to the breed. The Siamese appeared in Europe in the 19th century, notably in England, before being gradually recognized and selected for its elegance, its triangular head and its oriental expression. Its development then diverged slightly between English and American lines, and it contributed to the creation of several other oriental feline breeds.

Appearance

What does it look like?

The Siamese is a medium-sized cat with a long, slender and elegant body, with a delicate bone structure and well-defined musculature. Its head is wedge-shaped, its profile straight, its large ears extend the triangular shape of the face and its almond-shaped eyes are an intense blue. Its coat is short, shiny, silky and lying close to the body, with a light coat contrasting with darker extremities on the mask, ears, legs and tail.

Temperament

Temperament and personality

The Siamese is a demonstrative, intelligent, expressive cat and very close to its home. It often develops a strong attachment to one or two people and likes to take part in daily life. Its personality is strong, sometimes changeable, with an alternation between great tenderness, a need for attention and more capricious moments.

Affectionate Playful Intelligent Sociable

Living together

Living with children and animals

Very active and talkative, the Siamese readily communicates through frequent, distinctive meows. He likes to follow his human, play, climb and explore his environment. Solitude and boredom do not suit him well and can encourage undesirable behaviors, hence the importance of offering him interaction, games and elevated observation points.

Training

Training and socialization

The Siamese learns well when you focus on consistency, environmental enrichment and positive interactions. It is a lively cat that quickly understands household routines, intelligence games and certain simple instructions. Early socialization, daily playtime and consistent boundaries help it channel its energy and strong personality.

Diet

Anecdotes and popularity

The Siamese has long fascinated with its oriental appearance and its very recognizable voice. The breed was noticed in England as early as the first major cat shows and then served as the basis for the development of several other breeds such as the Balinese and the Oriental. Its intense blue gaze and its colourpoint coat have made it one of the most emblematic cats in the world.
