  • Delicate health: The breed requires real vigilance regarding the eyes, ears, breathing, and the heart.

Origins

Where does it come from?

The King Charles Spaniel is mentioned as early as the 16th century. Over time, breeders selected small companion spaniels appreciated by the British aristocracy. Its name pays tribute to King Charles II, a great lover of these dogs. Formerly used for hunting as well as companionship, it was then crossed with dogs from the East to arrive at the current type. The breed was definitively recognized by the FCI in 1955.

Appearance

What does it look like?

The King Charles Spaniel is a small dog with an elegant appearance but a stocky build, with a silhouette almost inscribable in a square. Its domed head is characteristic, with large very expressive dark eyes, long well-feathered ears and a short muzzle. Its coat is long, silky and straight to slightly wavy, with abundant feathering on the ears, limbs and tail.

Temperament

Temperament and personality
