Origins

Where does it come from?

The origins of the Brazilian Terrier date back to the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, when young Brazilians returning from Europe brought with them terrier-type dogs. Adapted to life on Brazilian farms and then crossed with local dogs, these dogs gradually gave rise to a breed established in Brazil, recognized by the FCI in 1995.

Appearance

What does it look like?

The Brazilian Terrier is a small dog, with a light but sturdy build, with a balanced body and rounded lines. Its triangular head narrows towards the muzzle, its ears are triangular and semi-erect, and its coat is short, fine and smooth. Its coat is white with black, brown or blue markings, notably above the eyes, on the sides of the muzzle and on the ears.

Temperament

Temperament and personality

Lively, alert and intelligent, the Brazilian Terrier is a cheerful dog, friendly with its family and very attached to those close to it. It is, on the other hand, more reserved towards strangers, which makes it a good alert dog without being a large-format deterrent guard dog. It is also known as a companion dog and a small game dog.

Affectionate Playful

Living together

Living with children and other pets

The Brazilian Terrier has a lot of energy and liveliness to express on a daily basis. He enjoys long outings, games, and activities that engage both his body and his mind. If he lacks stimulation or gets bored, he may develop undesirable behaviors and become noisier or more restless.

Training

Training and socialization

His training requires consistency, a certain firmness and above all a lot of patience, gentleness and encouragement. Recall and basic commands are best worked on very early, as is socialization, in order to channel his active temperament and his reserve towards strangers.

Budget

Price and budget for the Brazilian Terrier

The purchase price of the Brazilian Terrier varies depending on the lineage, the quality of breeding, and the availability of puppies. It is important to prioritize a reputable breeder, attentive to the socialization and health monitoring of the breeding dogs and the puppies.
