A menu for every age
Needs change over time
Puppy : A complete puppy diet, divided into several meals, supports growth without excess.
Adult : In adulthood, a quality ration adjusted to daily activity helps maintain a stable weight and good musculature.
Senior : As they age, a more digestible formula and weight monitoring help support any possible decrease in activity.
Which food?
Kibble, wet food, or home-cooked diet?
Complete good-quality kibble, formulated for an active small-sized dog, generally suits the Brazilian Terrier very well. The ration must be adjusted according to age, daily expenditure and body condition.
Amounts
How much should you give?
The daily quantity must be adapted to the weight, physical activity and type of food distributed. It is preferable to reason from the manufacturer's recommendations then to adjust according to the dog's body condition.
| Weight | Daily amount | Meals/day |
|---|---|---|
| 7 - 8 kg | 155 - 225 g | 2 |
| 8 - 9 kg | 166 - 227 g | 2 |
| 9 - 10 kg | 182 - 249 g | 2 |
Change
Managing the food transition
Any change in diet must be made gradually over several days to limit digestive disorders and promote good acceptance of the new ration.
Hydration
Water: do not overlook it
Clean, fresh water must remain available at all times, especially after exercise and during hot periods, as this active breed can exert itself intensely.
Little extras
Treats, in moderation
Treats can be useful for training and motivation, but they must remain moderate and be included in the total caloric intake of the day.
Good habits
For a top-notch bowl
- Weigh the ration rather than serving it by guesswork.
- Adjust the quantities on days of high or low activity.
- Introduce any new food gradually.
- Leave fresh water available at all times.
Never give
As with other dogs, chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, xylitol, alcohol, caffeine and cooked bones should be avoided, as they can cause poisoning, severe digestive disorders or potentially life-threatening complications.
