The Teckel is preferably acquired from a LOF breeding kennel that specifies the variety (standard, miniature, kaninchen) and the coat type (smooth, wire or long), presents the parents and documents back monitoring. A very low price should prompt checking identification and breeding conditions. Adoption through an association is possible, especially for an adult.

A price too good to be true?
- Check the variety and coat type: they change the size, maintenance and sometimes the price.
- A very cheap puppy without back monitoring or identification is not a good choice.
- Anticipate the cost of back monitoring and strict weight control.
