Yugoslavian Mountain Hound: temperament, price, health, and breeders

The Yugoslav Mountain Hound descends from ancient lines of scent hounds developed in the Balkans for hunting in rugged terrain. Long known under the name Black Hound, it had its standard set in the 20th century before being recognized by the FCI. This medium-sized scenthound has a solid silhouette, slightly longer than tall, designed for endurance and agility. Its coat is black with tan markings above the eyes, on the muzzle and on the limbs. The hair is short, dense, rather harsh and lying on a well-developed undercoat, with pendant ears, oval light to dark brown eyes and a sabre tail.

It is generally obedient, without marked aggressiveness, and can make a good family companion when it benefits from an environment suited to its needs.
