A menu for every age
Needs change over time
Puppy : Choose a complete diet suited to growth and divide the intake into several meals according to the veterinarian's advice.
Adult : Adjust the ration to weight and activity level, with a controlled increase during hunting periods.
Senior : Reassess energy intake, body condition and the digestibility of the diet with the veterinarian.
Which food?
Kibble, wet food, or home-cooked diet?
High-quality kibble, complete and balanced, may be suitable if its composition and energy density match the dog's age, weight and activity.
Amounts
How much should you give?
The daily amount must be determined according to weight, age, body condition and activity intensity. Needs increase during the hunting season, then the ration must gradually return to its usual level once this period is over.
| Weight | Daily amount | Meals/day |
|---|---|---|
| 24 - 24 kg | 378 - 519 g | 2 |
| 24 - 25 kg | 383 - 525 g | 2 |
| 25 - 25 kg | 387 - 531 g | 2 |
Change
Managing the food transition
Any change in diet must be gradual in order to limit digestive disorders, by mixing the old and the new food over several days.
Hydration
Water: do not overlook it
Clean, fresh water must remain available at all times, with increased attention during long outings, hunting and hot periods.
Little extras
Treats, in moderation
Treats can be used as an educational reward, notably for recall, but their intake must remain moderate and be deducted from the daily ration.
Good habits
For a top-notch bowl
- Divide the daily ration into two meals.
- Adjust the intake to hunting and rest periods.
- Regularly monitor weight and body condition.
- Avoid intense exercise just before and after meals.
Never give
Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion, garlic, products containing xylitol, alcohol, caffeine, macadamia nuts and cooked bones should be avoided, as they can cause poisoning, digestive disorders or serious injuries.
