A menu for every age
Needs change over time
Puppy : Provide a complete food suited to the growth of a medium-sized dog, in several meals and without excess energy.
Adult : Divide the daily ration into 2 meals and adjust it to the level of exercise, especially during periods of sustained activity.
Senior : Adjust the energy intake to any decrease in activity and regularly monitor weight and mobility.
Which food?
Kibble, wet food, or home-cooked diet?
Choose a quality complete food formulated for a medium-sized and active dog. The energy density must be adapted to actual expenditure, higher during hunting periods or sustained sporting activity.
Amounts
How much should you give?
The daily amount depends on the energy value of the food, the weight, the age and the level of exercise. It must be determined according to the manufacturer's recommendations and then adjusted to the dog's body condition.
| Weight | Daily amount | Meals/day |
|---|---|---|
| 23 - 25 kg | 376 - 516 g | 2 |
| 25 - 27 kg | 404 - 554 g | 2 |
| 27 - 29 kg | 432 - 592 g | 2 |
Change
Managing the food transition
Any change in diet must be carried out gradually over several days in order to limit digestive upsets, by gradually increasing the proportion of the new food.
Hydration
Water: do not overlook it
Fresh, clean water must remain available at all times, with increased vigilance after long outings, in hot weather or during a hunting activity.
Little extras
Treats, in moderation
Treats can be used for training, notably for recall, but their intake must remain moderate and be deducted from the daily ration.
Good habits
For a top-notch bowl
- Divide the daily ration into 2 meals.
- Adjust the ration to age, weight and exercise level.
- Avoid intense effort just before and just after the meal.
- Regularly monitor body condition.
Never give
As with all dogs, it is necessary to avoid in particular chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion, garlic in toxic quantities, xylitol, alcohol, caffeine, macadamia nuts and cooked bones, which can cause poisoning, digestive disorders or internal injuries.
