Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen: temperament, price, health, and breeders

The Petit Basset Griffon vendéen comes from the selection of Vendéen griffons and for a long time was confused with the Grand Basset Griffon vendéen, before a clear distinction was established. Dogs of the breed won the first Coupe de France for rabbit. The breed was definitively recognized by the FCI on 4 May 1976, and its current official standard was published on 9 January 1999.

The Petit Basset Griffon vendéen is a low-legged dog, slightly longer than tall, well proportioned and harmonious. Its coat is of medium length, with a harsh texture, never silky nor woolly. The head is slightly domed and very expressive, with large supple ears furnished with long hair, dark eyes and an elongated muzzle. The back is straight, the loin muscular and the tail, set on high, is carried like a sabre blade.
