Shumba Murenga

Shumba Murenga is a breeding kennel for Rhodesian Ridgebacks based in Ratekau. The kennel is a member of the Deutscher Rassehund Club (DRC) and is dedicated to this dog breed, placing particular emphasis on the responsible placement of the puppies. The puppies leave the kennel after their ninth week of life and are handed over with their papers. For Shumba Murenga, it is particularly important that the young dogs find suitable homes. Therefore, the kennel places great importance on getting to know prospective owners personally before the puppies are handed over. The kennel name refers to the breed’s history of origin: Southern Rhodesia was located in the area of present-day Zimbabwe, where Shona is spoken, among other languages. “Shumba murenga” is translated from this language into German as “lion hunting dog” and thus refers to the Rhodesian Ridgeback.
