Origins

Where does it come from?

From the 18th century onwards, the breed enjoyed great success among hunters. Competitions for pointing dogs were organized from the end of the 19th century in Hungary, where it distinguished itself in a remarkable way. More sustained breeding programs emerged from 1920 onwards. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale recognized the breed for the first time in 1936, then definitively on 12 August 1954.

Appearance

Its body is slightly longer than it is tall, with a muscular withers, a strong, straight back and a fairly long croup. Its lean, noble head has oval brown eyes with a lively expression, as well as rounded V-shaped ears lying flat against the cheeks. Its coat is short, close, harsh to the touch and without undercoat, finer and silkier on the head and ears. The coat comes in different shades of golden wheat, generally darker on the ears.

Very energetic and playful, he needs long daily outings and regular opportunities to run and explore. He can adapt to apartment living if his activity needs are fully met, but a large fenced garden suits him better. His sociability is generally good with children and strangers, while living with other animals requires socialization adapted to his hunting instinct.

Training

Training and socialization

Known to be easy to train, this sensitive dog learns through a consistent approach combining measured firmness, gentleness and positive reinforcement. Very eager to please its owner, it must never be mistreated. Recall, leash walking and control of the chasing instinct should be worked on early and regularly.
