Particular attention must be paid to the heart, kidneys, joints and oral and dental condition. The still recent knowledge of the bloodlines justifies precise monitoring of family history and the reporting of any hereditary condition to breeders.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy : A thickening of the heart muscle can progress silently and warrants echocardiographic screening of breeding cats.
Kidney conditions : Monitoring kidney function is useful, particularly with age or in the presence of a history in the lineage.
Joint disorders : Maintaining a healthy weight and regular activity limits stress on the joints.
Oral and dental diseases : Tartar and gum inflammation require early prevention and regular veterinary check-ups.

Cold and heat tolerance
Its medium-long, dense coat provides adequate protection against moderate cold, but does not eliminate the need for indoor shelter. In hot weather, it must have access to cool rooms, refreshed water and shaded areas, with regular brushing to remove dead undercoat.

Which vaccines for a Céleste? Like all dogs, the Céleste receives essential vaccines from 8 weeks old: CHPPi (core vaccine) and Leptospirosis. The puppy primary vaccination for Céleste is given in several injections 4 weeks apart, followed by a first booster at 1 year. Depending on its lifestyle (hunting, hiking, boarding, travel, region), your veterinarian may complete the protocol with vaccines against Rabies, Kennel cough, Piroplasmosis, Lyme disease and Leishmaniasis.

Adopting a healthy Céleste
Before any breeding, a complete veterinary examination, an echocardiographic screening for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and a renal evaluation are recommended. FIV and FeLV status, blood group as well as relevant genetic tests depending on the lines must be documented.
