The Grand Anglo-French Tricolour was developed in France in the 19th century from crosses between French dogs such as the Poitevin and the Gascon Saintongeois, with a contribution from the Foxhound. Selected for hunting big game on varied terrain, it remains today a rare breed, mainly known and appreciated in its country of origin.

The Grand Anglo-French Tricolour is a large scenthound, solidly built, well proportioned and athletic, without heaviness. Its head is rather long, its ears are flat and slightly turned, its brown eyes are rimmed with black and its tail is rather long with an elegant carriage. Its tricolour coat combines a black mantle, bright tan markings and large white patches.

Balanced and pleasant to live with, the Grand Anglo-French Tricolour is above all a hunting dog. It is sociable with its family and of a generally stable nature, but its chasing instinct is very pronounced and its temperament is not that of a guard dog nor of a simple companion dog.
