Shiny Coat is a Flat-Coated Retriever and Golden Retriever kennel in San Giorgio Piacentino, in the province of Piacenza. The breeder, Patrizia, has been active in the dog world since 1990: she trained with Schnauzer and Newfoundland breeders, studied canine psychology and is a dog handler. The breeding programme began with Oly Black of Fundy Bay's Naiad, the first Italian female dog to obtain the title of Double Champion (beauty and working) in the Flat-Coated Retriever. The kennel works with English-type lines, not Scandinavian ones, carrying out health checks on the hips, elbows and eyes and paying attention to the breed's typical temperament. Only a few litters are born each year, making it possible to improve the quality of the matings. The dogs all live together in the house and have a large area available for exercise. The puppies grow up in the house and, from the twentieth day of life, are accustomed to different environmental stimuli.
