Kennel FCI Amore Sandys, based in Ljutomer, breeds Welsh Corgi Pembrokes and Yakutian Laikas. Its approach continues a family tradition in dogs spanning several generations, including earlier work with Irish Wolfhounds, English Setters, Fox Terriers, Great Danes and Whippets.
The kennel’s interest in the Yakutian Laika began after discovering the breed online in 2013. Its first female arrived in 2015, followed by another in 2016, and the first litter was born a year later with a male sourced from Poland. Further males and females subsequently joined the breeding programme.
The kennel moved from Italy to Slovenia because the breed was recognized there and pedigree registration was possible. Its dogs now live in several European countries, taking part in sled-dog activities, agility, conformation shows or pet therapy. Amore Sandys also follows the progress of puppies after they join their families.
