Canil Farol da Gibalta breeds Portuguese Water Dogs in a home-based setting. From their earliest days, the dogs experience the usual sounds and rhythms of household life, with daily contact with people, other dogs and cats. This early environment is intended to support their social development before they join their future families. The kennel places respect for each dog at the centre of its approach. It seeks to raise puppies with care and affection while considering the management of each lineage. Attention is given to helping every dog grow up in conditions that safeguard welfare, integrity and quality of life. Its breeding programme aims for sound, well-constructed dogs with balanced temperaments, while protecting the breed’s genetic and historical legacy. Parent dogs are selected for morphology and character, with genetic screening for recognised breed conditions and evaluations for hip and elbow dysplasia. The kennel sees the Portuguese Water Dog as an important part of Portugal’s heritage and roots.
