The Makonde Zoological Nucleus, located in Lugo, is dedicated to breeding the Rhodesian Ridgeback and is listed as a breeder registered with the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. Its work seeks to preserve the breed’s distinctive characteristics and guide each mating in accordance with its standard. Since 2005, the kennel has incorporated genetic lines from numerous recognized affixes in different countries. This diversity forms the basis of a program focused on planned, prudent selection consistent with the characteristic type of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Makonde’s breeding program prioritizes specimens that are balanced both physically and mentally. The aim is to produce healthy, intelligent and versatile dogs, with athletic ability, agility, suitable proportions and the necessary soundness, without losing the conformation and qualities representative of the breed.
