Our mission is to connect prospective adopters with responsible breeders who are registered and treat animals well, and to provide honest information so they can make an informed breed choice. This charter sets out our commitments and those we ask of breeders in our directory. It applies to our entire website and all our services. ## Identified breeders Pedibase lists breeders registered with the authorities in their country. Some listings are created by the breeders themselves; others are compiled by Pedibase from publicly available information (breeder websites, directories and official registries) to provide the most complete directory possible across Europe. Until a listing has been claimed, its information has not been verified by the breeder. Photos may be generic images illustrating the breed. Any breeder can request a correction or permanent removal of their listing for free, without creating an account, by emailing contact@pedibase.com. ## Fighting animal trafficking The pet trade fuels animal abuse, illegal imports and the sale of sick puppies and kittens. Pedibase refuses to contribute to it: - no sales take place on the site: Pedibase connects people, while the breeder remains solely responsible for the transfer; - listings for breeders with an unusually large number of breeds, resellers and intermediaries are not accepted; - puppies and kittens cannot be transferred before the legal age of 8 weeks and must be identified, vaccinated and accompanied by the required documents; - any substantiated report results in the immediate suspension of the listing concerned while it is reviewed. ## Animal welfare We list breeders who provide animals with good living conditions. Breeders on Pedibase agree to: - provide breeding animals and litters with a healthy living environment, space, regular veterinary care and early socialization; - limit the number of litters per female and allow adequate rest between pregnancies; - carry out the health screenings recommended for the breed and inform adopters of the results; - support adopters after the transfer and take an animal back in the event of serious difficulties. ## I-CAD identification Microchip or tattoo identification and registration with the I-CAD national database are required before any dog or cat is transferred in France. This is the first guarantee of an animal's traceability and legal origin. Breeders in our directory agree to transfer only animals identified in their name and to give adopters the identification card or transfer document needed to transfer ownership. ## Honest information Our breed profiles cover both the benefits and the challenges of each breed, including activity needs, health, grooming and costs. We'd rather discourage an unsuitable adoption than contribute to an animal being abandoned. Prices are indicative ranges. Published reviews are moderated and come from adopters who have actually contacted the breeder. ## Moderation and reporting Listings are reviewed and may be corrected or suspended at any time. Breeders who violate this charter, regulations or our code of conduct are removed from the directory. Anyone can report a breeder, listing or behavior that goes against these commitments. We review every report and, where appropriate, refer the matter to the relevant authorities. ## Our recommendations for adopters An informed adopter is the best defense against animal trafficking.
