Origins
## Where does it come from?
The Yakutian Laika, or Laïka de Yakoutie, is an archaic dog of the peoples of Yakutia, used for centuries for sledding, guarding herds and hunting. Isolated by the extreme climate of eastern Siberia, it has retained a rustic type, great pack sociability and an insulating coat. The breed was recognized more recently at the Russian national level and then spread in Europe. In France, it remains rare and is mainly bred by Nordic enthusiasts.
Appearance
## What does it look like?
It is a medium-sized spitz, slightly rectangular, with solid bone structure without heaviness. The head is wedge-shaped, the ears erect and mobile, the eyes almond-shaped. The abundant double coat has a ruff and a tail curled over the back. Piebald coats, often white marked with black, grey, red or spotted, are typical. The feet are well furnished for snow.

## Temperament and personality
Sociable, vocal and very attached to his human pack, he is not a solitary dog. He likes to run, pull and communicate through vocalizations. With children, he is generally playful if he is respected. His chasing instinct exists, but he has also been selected to live near camps and herds.
