Feeding

# Feeding your Xoloitzcuintli well

Mexico

A classic quality industrial diet is suitable for the Mexican Hairless Dog when it is adapted to its age, its size and its level of physical activity.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Puppy: Growth food adapted to the size, in three meals up to six months then two, without calcium supplement or intense exercise.
- Adult: Ration adjusted to ideal weight and activity level, in two meals, with regular monitoring of body shape.
- Senior: Digestible food, less energy-dense, possibly with joint support, while monitoring weight and appetite.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

A complete industrial food of standard quality is suitable for the breed.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The ration must be adjusted to the dog's size, its age and its level of physical activity.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 3 - 8 kg | 119 - 173 g | 2 |
| 8 - 13 kg | 198 - 271 g | 2 |
| 13 - 18 kg | 278 - 381 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any change in diet must be carried out gradually in order to preserve digestive balance.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Clean, fresh water must remain available at all times.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats should remain occasional and be included in the daily ration in order to control energy intake.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Split the food into 2 meals per day.
- Choose a complete, quality industrial food.
- Adjust the ration to the age, size and physical activity.

### Never feed these foods

Chocolate, grapes, xylitol, onion, garlic, alcohol, caffeine, macadamia nuts, cooked bones and very fatty or very salty foods are dangerous for dogs. In case of ingestion, contact a veterinarian quickly.
