Feeding

# Feeding your Wirehaired Vizsla well

Hungary

This athletic dog needs a complete and balanced diet, adapted to its age, weight, body condition and activity level. The ration must support effort without promoting excessive weight gain.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Puppy: choose a complete food for growth and divide the ration into several meals according to the veterinarian's advice.
- Adult: adjust the energy intake to the activity level and regularly monitor body condition.
- Senior: reassess energy density, digestibility and medical needs with the veterinarian.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

A complete, quality diet formulated for an active adult medium-sized dog is generally suitable. The precise choice and energy density must be adjusted with the veterinarian according to activity, health and digestive tolerance.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount depends on the energy density of the food, the actual weight and physical expenditure. The manufacturer's guidelines serve as a starting point, then the ration is adjusted according to body condition and veterinary advice.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 20 - 24 kg | 270 - 390 g | 2 |
| 24 - 27 kg | 320 - 450 g | 2 |
| 27 - 30 kg | 360 - 510 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any change in diet must be gradual over several days in order to limit digestive upsets, by gradually increasing the proportion of the new food.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Fresh, clean water must remain available at all times, particularly after an outing, a hunting session or in hot weather.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats can support positive training, but they must remain moderate and be deducted from the daily ration in order to maintain an ideal weight.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Split the daily ration into several meals.
- Avoid intense exercise just before and after meals.
- Weigh the dog regularly and adjust the ration to its body condition.
- Leave fresh water available at all times.

### Never feed these foods

Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion, garlic, xylitol, alcohol, caffeine, macadamia nuts and cooked bones should be avoided due to toxic, digestive or traumatic risks.
