Feeding

# Feeding your Tyrolean Hound well

Austria

Its diet must cover the needs of an active scenthound while remaining adjusted to its age, its weight, its body condition and the intensity of its outings.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Puppy: Provide a complete growth food in several meals, ensuring regular weight gain without excess.
- Adult: Adjust the ration to the activity level, particularly during periods of hunting or sustained work.
- Senior: Reassess energy intake and favor a diet adapted to age, mobility, and health status.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

A complete, good-quality diet, formulated for an adult medium-sized dog and adapted to its activity level, is suitable for the breed. The ration can be industrial or home-prepared if the latter is balanced by a veterinarian.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount must be calculated according to the energy density of the food, the dog's weight and its actual expenditure, then adjusted by regularly observing its body condition.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 18 kg | 260 - 315 g | 2 |
| 18 - 19 kg | 270 - 330 g | 2 |
| 19 - 20 kg | 280 - 345 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any change in diet must be gradual over about a week in order to limit digestive disorders.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Fresh water must remain available at all times, especially after long outings, during work and in hot weather.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats can support training and recall, but they must remain moderate and be deducted from the daily ration.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Weigh the daily ration rather than estimating it by eye.
- Split the ration into two meals for the adult.
- Avoid intense exertion just before and after the meal.
- Regularly monitor the silhouette and adjust the quantities.

### Never feed these foods

Chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion, garlic in toxic quantities, xylitol, alcohol, caffeine, macadamia nuts and cooked bones should be avoided due to the risks of poisoning, obstruction or perforation.
