Origins

## Where does it come from?

Originating from the Carpathians in Romania, the Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog has long been selected for herding and above all for protecting flocks against predators. Courageous, hardy and naturally vigilant, it has established itself as a first-rate working assistant in mountainous areas. Its standard was established by the Romanian Cynological Association in 1981, then the breed obtained a more recent international recognition.

Appearance

## What does it look like?

The Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog is a very large, powerful dog, with well-developed bone structure and musculature. Its body is solid, with a straight and strong back, a broad slightly domed head, hazel to dark brown eyes with a calm and intelligent expression, as well as V-shaped drop ears. Its coat is long, harsh and abundant, combined with a dense undercoat, with white, grey or piebald colours with black or grey patches.

Temperament

## Temperament and personality

Balanced, calm and self-assured, the Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog stands out for its courage, loyalty and strong protective instinct. Playful Intelligent Sociable Protective

Living together

## Living with children and other pets

This large Romanian shepherd needs space, freedom of movement and a living environment that respects its nature as a guard and herding dog. It appreciates long outings, rural environments and activities that stimulate its senses. Indoors, it can be calm if its physical and mental needs are properly met.

Training

## Training and socialization

Early socialization is essential to channel its territorial instinct and its natural distrust of strangers. Its training must be conducted with consistency, firmness and calm, without brutality, favoring positive reinforcement. Intelligent and strong-willed, it makes good progress with an experienced, consistent and fair owner.

The Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog remains an uncommon breed, which can limit availability and influence the acquisition budget. The price depends in particular on the seriousness of the breeding kennel, the lineage, the tests carried out on the breeding dogs and the availability of puppies.
