Feeding

# Feeding your Pinscher well

Germany

The Pinscher needs a complete and digestible diet adapted to its medium size, its high activity level and its physiological condition. Protein quality and control of energy density are important to support its muscle mass without excess.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Puppy: Growth food adapted to the expected size, divided into three meals, without unnecessary calcium supplementation.
- Adult: Controlled ration in two meals, adjusted to the ideal weight and actual activity.
- Senior: Digestible food, possibly less energy-dense, with joint and dental monitoring.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

Premium kibble for adult, medium-sized and active dogs generally suits the Pinscher well. The diet must remain adapted to age, exercise level, possible neutering and individual digestive sensitivity.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount varies according to weight, activity, age and the caloric density of the chosen food. It must be divided according to the dog's rhythm and reassessed if the silhouette changes.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 14 - 16 kg | 270 - 370 g | 2 |
| 16 - 18 kg | 302 - 414 g | 2 |
| 18 - 20 kg | 334 - 458 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any change of food must be done gradually over several days in order to limit digestive disorders and allow good acceptance of the new ration.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Clean, fresh water must remain available at all times, especially after exercise, in hot weather and when travelling.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats can be useful for training the Pinscher, provided they remain moderate and are deducted from the daily ration to avoid overweight.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Weigh the ration regularly to adjust it to the dog's actual activity.
- Split meals if the dog eats too quickly or engages in intense activity.
- Provide fresh water before and after sporting outings.

### Never feed these foods

As with other dogs, it is necessary to avoid in particular chocolate, grapes, onion, garlic, avocado, alcohol, cooked bones, xylitol and very fatty foods, as they can cause serious digestive, neurological or cardiac disorders.
