Origins

## Where does it come from?

The Old Danish Pointer is an ancient breed originating from the Glenstrup region, in Denmark. At the beginning of the 18th century, Morten Bak carried out selective breeding work over several generations by notably crossing Bohemian dogs and local farm dogs, giving rise to the Bak Dog, at the origin of the current breed. Used for tracking hare and fox, it mainly developed in its country of origin. The Danish Kennel Club recognized its standard in 1962, then the FCI in 1969.

Appearance

## What does it look like?

The Old Danish Pointer is a medium-sized dog, of strong build, with a silhouette inscribed in a rectangle. The male appears more powerful and more heavily built than the female, who is lighter and more lively. Its coat is always white with dark brown markings and speckling. The hair is short, close and rather hard to the touch. The ears are pendant and lie close against the cheeks, the chest is broad and deep, and the tail, of medium length, is carried hanging.

Temperament

## Temperament and personality

It is an energetic but balanced dog, capable of remaining calm outside of hunting action. Very attached to its owner, it is sociable, intelligent and willing. In a working situation, it shows courage, determination and fine consistency, without excessive nervousness.

Affectionate Playful Intelligent Easy to train

Living together

## Living with children and other pets

On a daily basis, the Old Danish Pointer needs space, long outings and regular stimulation. It likes living in close contact with its family, but copes poorly with solitude and isolation. When hunting, it moves rather slowly and willingly stays within range of its handler, which makes it appreciated for its calm style and its control.

Training

## Training and socialization

His training is generally accessible thanks to his attachment to his owner, his intelligence and his calmness. He responds well to consistent handling, combining firmness, gentleness and regularity. Early socialization and regular activities are important to channel his energy and maintain his balance.

## Price and budget for the Old Danish Pointer
