Origins

## Where does it come from?

The deep historical roots of the Korean Jindo Dog are not documented. It is nevertheless established that this breed, several millennia old, originates from Jindo Island, in South Korea. Recognized by the FCI in 2005 under number 334, it belongs to Group 5 of Spitz-type and primitive-type dogs.

Appearance

## What does it look like?

The Korean Jindo Dog is a medium-sized Spitz-type dog, harmoniously proportioned, agile, vigorous, vigilant and proud. Its head forms a blunt triangle, with a slightly domed skull, a pronounced stop, strong jaws with a scissor bite and well-developed lean cheeks. Its small almond-shaped eyes are dark brown and its triangular, thick, erect ears point slightly forward. Its muscular neck precedes a strong, straight back, a taut loin, a strong chest of medium height and a tucked-up belly. Its tail, set high, is carried in a sickle or curled. Its harsh outer coat, longer on the neck, the withers, the back, the croup and the tail, covers a soft, dense undercoat. The coat can be red fawn, white, black, black and tan, wolf grey or brindle.

Temperament

## Temperament and personality

The Korean Jindo Dog is courageous, vigilant, independent and incorruptible. Very attached to its owner, it shows them unwavering loyalty. It retains a strong hunting instinct and may be unwelcoming toward other animals, especially male dogs. Its reserve and guarding instinct require careful socialization.

Affectionate Playful

Living together

## Living with children and other pets

Active without being hyperactive, it tolerates idleness poorly and particularly enjoys long daily walks as well as activities that engage its instincts. Its natural vigilance makes it an attentive guard dog. It is less naturally at ease than other breeds in households with children or other animals.

Training

## Training and socialization

His deep attachment to his owner does not mean automatic obedience. His primitive and independent temperament requires a firm, consistent and patient training, without any brutality. He is better suited to a person who already has good experience in dog training.

Budget

## Price and budget for the Korean Jindo Dog

The purchase price varies depending on the breeder and the dog's characteristics. The annual maintenance budget indicated by the source is between 450 and 650 euros.

Health

## Health at a glance

The Korean Jindo Dog is robust and generally enjoys solid health. Its double coat provides good protection against harsh climatic conditions. However, the breed is not hypoallergenic and certain disorders must be monitored.

Nutrition

## Feeding your pet well

The Korean Jindo Dog does not have a big appetite. Quality commercial food or balanced home-made meals may suit it, provided they are adapted to its weight, its age and its activity level.
