Origins
## Where does it come from?
The distinction between the two varieties of Irish Setter became established as early as the 18th century. Selective breeding work gradually fixed solid red dogs from the Red and White Irish Setter, at the origin of the current red variety. The Irish Red Setter club was created in 1882 and the breed was definitively recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale on 22 December 1954, with an official standard published on 13 March 2001.
Appearance
## What does it look like?
The Red Irish Setter is an athletic, harmonious and well-proportioned dog. Its body is strong, muscular and balanced, with a well let-down chest. The head is long and lean, the oval gaze is dark and gentle, and the ears are set low with beautiful silky fringes. The coat is solid-colored, of a characteristic bright chestnut, with fine and short hair on the head and the front of the limbs, then of medium length, flat and more abundant on the rest of the body.
