The Grand Anglo-Français blanc et noir comes from the Bâtard Anglo-Saintongeois, developed in the 19th century by crossing the Chien de Saintonge and the English Foxhound. Selected for hunting with hounds and pack work, it has established itself as a powerful, hardy and effective hunting dog on deer and roe deer. The breed has been recognized by the FCI since 1983.
