Feeding

# Feeding your Cursinu well

France

The Cursinu benefits from a simple, healthy and well-balanced diet. It is not known to be difficult, but its diet must remain adapted to its size, its activity level and its body condition to avoid any unnecessary weight gain.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Puppy: A diet for a medium-sized puppy, split into several meals, supports growth without promoting overly rapid development.
- Adult: The ration must cover the dog's actual activity while maintaining an athletic silhouette, generally with two meals per day.
- Senior: In older dogs, the goal is to preserve muscle mass, digestion, and joint comfort with a highly digestible diet adjusted to activity.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

High-quality kibble for an active medium-sized dog provides a practical and complete base. Depending on the feeding method chosen with the veterinarian, it can be supplemented with a portion of raw meat or a properly balanced home-prepared ration, without excess energy.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount depends mainly on actual weight, age, sterilization, outside temperature and the amount of exercise. With a dog this active, it is better to adjust the ration to body condition rather than feed by eye.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 20 - 23 kg | 338 - 465 g | 2 |
| 23 - 25 kg | 376 - 516 g | 2 |
| 25 - 28 kg | 413 - 566 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any change in diet must be gradual over several days in order to avoid digestive upsets. A gentle transition also makes it possible to check that the Cursinu maintains good energy and regular digestion.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Clean, fresh water must remain available at all times, with increased vigilance after exertion, in summer and during long outings. An active dog that pants a lot must be able to rehydrate calmly on return.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats can be useful for training, but they must remain simple, digestible and given in small quantities. They are included in the total ration so as not to encourage weight gain.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Weigh the ration rather than pouring it in by eye.
- Adjust the intake according to the season and the amount of exercise.
- Introduce any new feed gradually.

### Never feed these foods

As with other dogs, chocolate, onion, garlic, grapes, avocado, alcohol, cooked bones, xylitol and very fatty or very salty foods should be avoided, as they can cause poisoning, severe digestive disorders or metabolic complications.
