Origins

## Where does it come from?

The Biewer Yorkshire originates from a selection work carried out in Germany from Yorkshire Terrier subjects carrying a tricolour coat with white piebald markings. This line was developed in the 1980s by the German breeder couple Mr and Mrs Biewer, after whom the breed is named. Long considered as a variety of the Yorkshire Terrier rather than as a distinct breed, it remains rare in France and its institutional recognition has progressed more slowly than that of other small companion breeds.

Appearance

## What does it look like?

The Biewer Yorkshire is a very small, harmonious and compact dog, with a well-proportioned silhouette. Its head is small and rather flat, the muzzle short and the nose black. Its dark eyes express liveliness and intelligence, while its small upright ears in the shape of an inverted V reinforce its alert appearance. Its coat is long, straight and silky, parted by a line along the back, with a tricolour coat of white, blue and gold, or white, black and gold, the gold concentrating mainly on the head.

Temperament

## Temperament and personality

Lively, expressive and intelligent, the Biewer Yorkshire is above all a companion dog very attached to its home. It is affectionate with those close to it, alert and driven by a real little terrier temperament. Behind its delicate appearance, it retains an assertive personality, with a certain independence and a marked taste for interaction, play and observing its environment.

Affectionate Playful Intelligent Sociable

Living together

## Living with children and other pets

The Biewer Yorkshire likes to live as close as possible to its family and copes well with indoor life, provided it enjoys daily walks, games and stimulation. It can be talkative and reactive to noises, which makes it a good alert dog on the scale of its size. Its chasing instinct remains modest but real towards small animals, and living with other companions requires early socialization.

Training

## Training and socialization

The education of the Biewer Yorkshire must start early, with stable rules, consistency and plenty of positive reinforcement. Its intelligence makes learning easier, but its stubborn side can appear if one gives in to its charm or if one lacks consistency. Careful socialization, gentle handling from the youngest age and short playful sessions help it become a pleasant little dog and comfortable in its own skin.

Budget

## Price and budget for the Biewer Yorkshire

The Biewer Yorkshire is a rare breed, which influences its purchase price. The cost varies mainly depending on the quality of the breeding, the origins, the health monitoring offered and the rarity of the available litters.

[See cost breakdown](https://www.pedibase.com/en/dog-breed/biewer-yorkshire/price)

Health

## Health at a glance

The Biewer Yorkshire is a small dog that is generally lively, but its health requires regular attention, notably due to its very small size. Like many toy dogs, certain bone and joint structures are more vulnerable, and its preventive monitoring must be rigorous.

[Prevention and things to watch for](https://www.pedibase.com/en/dog-breed/biewer-yorkshire/health)

Nutrition

## Feeding your pet well

The Biewer Yorkshire needs a high-quality diet, nutritionally dense and suited to very small dogs. The ration must cover its energy needs without promoting weight gain.

Did you know?

## Fun facts and popularity

The Biewer Yorkshire is often confused with the Yorkshire Terrier, whereas its tricolor coat with pronounced white markings is precisely the starting point of its selection. Its name comes directly from its German creators, the Biewer couple. Still not very widespread, it attracts lovers of small elegant dogs who are looking for a more rare house companion than the classic Yorkshire.
