# Feeding your Bergamasco Sheepdog well

Its diet must meet the needs of a large active dog without excess energy. The ration varies greatly depending on its age, its activity, its physiological condition and its outdoor life; it must therefore be adjusted to body condition rather than to the weight alone indicated on the packaging.
A menu for every age
## Their needs change as they grow
- Puppy: Choose a food for large-breed puppies, split meals and control growth in order to protect the joints.
- Adult: Adjust intake to daily activity and maintain an athletic silhouette without excess weight.
- Senior: Favor an easily digestible diet, adjusted to the decrease in activity and supporting the joints according to the veterinarian's advice.

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?
High-quality complete kibble formulated for large-breed dogs and adapted to the activity level is a practical solution. A home-prepared ration based on meat, vegetables and a source of carbohydrates may be suitable if it is balanced by a veterinary nutritionist in order to avoid deficiencies.

## How much should you feed?
The daily amount must be calculated based on the energy density of the food, the ideal weight and the actual expenditure. The manufacturer's indications serve as a starting point, then the ration is adjusted according to changes in weight and body shape.
