Feeding

# Feeding your Sokoké well

Kenya

The Sokoké needs a good-quality diet, rich in animal proteins and adapted to its age, activity level and physiological status. Its active profile calls for a well-calibrated ration, without unnecessary excess energy.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Kitten: An energy-rich, highly digestible diet promotes growth and muscle development.
- Adult: The ration must support its activity without excess calories, with quality animal proteins.
- Senior: The diet must remain palatable, digestible and adapted to changes in its activity and body condition.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

Premium kibble for an active cat or a mixed diet combining kibble and good-quality wet food generally suits the Sokoké well. The essential thing is to favor formulas rich in animal proteins, digestible and adapted to its lifestyle.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount must be adjusted according to weight, activity, neutering/spaying, and the energy density of the chosen food. A very active Sokoké will not have the same needs as an individual living exclusively indoors.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 3 kg | 50 - 60 g | 2 |
| 3 - 4 kg | 60 - 75 g | 2 |
| 4 - 5 kg | 75 - 90 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any dietary transition must be gradual over several days in order to limit digestive upsets. It is preferable to gradually increase the proportion of the new food while observing the cat's appetite, stools and general condition.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Like all cats, the Sokoké must have constant access to clean, fresh water. A water fountain or adding wet food to the ration can help support good hydration, especially in individuals fed mainly on kibble.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats must remain occasional and included in the calculation of the overall ration. They can be useful to enrich the environment or positively reinforce certain learning, but they must not unbalance the daily diet.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Split the ration if the cat eats too quickly.
- Combine fresh water and wet food to support hydration.
- Reassess the quantities after sterilization or a decrease in activity.

### Never feed these foods

The Sokoké must not consume chocolate, onion, garlic, grapes, alcohol, caffeine, cooked bones or very salty or very fatty foods, as they can cause digestive or neurological disorders or sometimes severe poisoning in the cat.
