Health

# The Singapura's health

Singapore

The Singapura is overall a robust cat, with no major hereditary predisposition clearly established in the references consulted. Its main point of vigilance concerns its sensitivity to cold and drafts, due to its short coat and the absence of an undercoat. As with any cat, regular veterinary follow-up and serious vaccination prevention remain essential.

Longevity

## Life expectancy

With a life expectancy often between 15 and 20 years, the Singapura is one of the cats that can accompany their family for a long time. This longevity depends on the quality of its diet, its indoor environment, preventive healthcare, and maintaining a healthy body weight throughout its life.

Constitution

## Is this a robust breed?

Despite its very compact size and slenderness, the Singapura is overall a solid and resilient cat. It is not considered fragile on a daily basis, provided it is protected from the cold, lives in a stable environment and benefits from appropriate preventive care.

Things to watch for

## What to look out for

Monitoring should mainly focus on thermal comfort, general condition, appetite and respiratory signs during the cold season. A habitat without drafts, up-to-date vaccinations and periodic veterinary check-ups help limit the most common risks.

- Sensitivity to cold: The short coat and the lack of an undercoat expose the Singapura more to drafts and chills, especially in winter.

Climate

## Tolerance to cold and heat

The Singapura tolerates a temperate, indoor environment better than a cold or windy climate. Its short coat and the absence of an undercoat make it more sensitive to drafts and drops in temperature. In winter, it appreciates warm bedding and well-protected rooms.

Weight

## Prone to weight gain

This small cat must retain a slender, muscular silhouette, without excess. A ration adapted to its age, its activity and its neutering, combined with regular play, helps prevent weight gain while respecting its small size.

Everyday care

## Good habits to keep your pet healthy

- Avoid drafts and cold rooms.
- Keep vaccinations and deworming up to date according to veterinary follow-up.
- Regularly monitor weight, eyes, and ears.

Vaccination

## Singapura vaccinations: schedule

Which vaccines does a Singapura need? Like all cats, Singapuras should receive their core vaccines from 8 weeks of age: Typhus (panleukopenia) and Coryza. Kittens receive their initial Singapura vaccinations in several shots spaced 4 weeks apart, followed by a first booster at 1 year, even if they live indoors. Depending on their lifestyle (outdoor access, living with other cats, shows, travel), your veterinarian may add vaccines against Feline leukemia (FeLV), Rabies and Chlamydiosis.

| Vaccine | Primary vaccination | First booster | Then | For whom? |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Typhus (panleukopenia)Core Feline panleukopenia (cat parvovirus) | 8 weeks · 12 weeks · 3 months | 1 year | every year | All animals |
| CoryzaCore Feline herpesvirus and calicivirus | 8 weeks · 12 weeks · 3 months | 1 year | every year | All animals |
| Feline leukemia (FeLV)Depending on lifestyle Feline leukemia virus | 8 weeks · 12 weeks | 1 year | every year | Outdoor cats, cats living in a group or in a cattery |
| RabiesDepending on lifestyle Rabies | 12 weeks | 1 year | every year | Mandatory for travel abroad, cat shows and most boarding kennels |
| ChlamydiosisDepending on lifestyle Chlamydia felis (contagious conjunctivitis) | 8 weeks · 12 weeks | 1 year | every year | Cats living in groups, catteries, show cats |

Adult Singapura booster shots are given annually for feline herpesvirus and feline leukemia if your cat goes outdoors. For feline panleukopenia, a booster every three years is often enough after the first booster. Your veterinarian will tailor the schedule to your cat's lifestyle.

Choosing well

## Adopting a healthy Singapura

An annual clinical examination, vaccination follow-up, oral and dental monitoring and weight control constitute a good basis for prevention. In case of respiratory sensitivity, repeated sneezing or a drop in condition, a prompt consultation is recommended.

This information is for guidance only and doesn't replace advice from a veterinarian. If you have any concerns about your pet's health, consult a professional.

## The best prevention starts with a good breeder
