Strengths and weaknesses

- Very attached to its human: The Siamese actively seeks closeness and often forms a strong bond with its household.
- Sharp intelligence: It quickly understands routines, enjoys interactive games, and shows curiosity every day.
- Elegant silhouette: Its slender body, blue eyes, and colourpoint coat give it a very distinctive presence.

- Marked vocalization: Its frequent meows can become tiring in a household with low tolerance for noise.
- Does not tolerate solitude well: Boredom and prolonged absence may generate stress or undesirable behaviors.
- Strong personality: Its assertive temperament requires patience, consistency, and a well-suited environment.

Who is it for?

Ideal for

- Homes often at home: The Siamese thrives with available people who enjoy interacting often with their cat.
- Fans of expressive cats: It is well suited to those who appreciate a communicative, lively companion close to the family.
- Stimulating apartment living: It can live very well indoors if the environment offers games, height, and regular activities.

Not recommended for

- People often away: A lifestyle with long daily absences generally suits him poorly.
- Households looking for a discreet cat: His voice, his need for attention and his constant presence do not match an expectation of absolute tranquility.
- Poorly enriched environments: Without sufficient stimulation, he may quickly become bored and develop annoying behaviors.

Origins

## Where does it come from?

The origins of the Siamese go back to the kingdom of Siam, present-day Thailand, where ancient manuscripts already described cats with characteristics close to the breed. The Siamese appeared in Europe in the 19th century, notably in England, before being gradually recognized and selected for its elegance, its triangular head and its oriental expression. Its development then diverged slightly between English and American lines, and it contributed to the creation of several other oriental feline breeds.

Appearance

## What does it look like?

The Siamese is a medium-sized cat with a long, slender and elegant body, with a delicate bone structure and well-defined musculature. Its head is wedge-shaped, its profile straight, its large ears extend the triangular shape of the face and its almond-shaped eyes are an intense blue. Its coat is short, shiny, silky and lying close to the body, with a light coat contrasting with darker extremities on the mask, ears, legs and tail.

Temperament

## Temperament and personality

The Siamese is a demonstrative, intelligent, expressive cat and very close to its home. It often develops a strong attachment to one or two people and likes to take part in daily life. Its personality is strong, sometimes changeable, with an alternation between great tenderness, a need for attention and more capricious moments.

Affectionate Playful Intelligent Sociable

Living together

## Living with children and other pets

Very active and talkative, the Siamese readily communicates through frequent, distinctive meows. He likes to follow his human, play, climb and explore his environment. Solitude and boredom do not suit him well and can encourage undesirable behaviors, hence the importance of offering him interaction, games and elevated observation points.

Training

## Training and socialization

The Siamese learns well when you focus on consistency, environmental enrichment and positive interactions. It is a lively cat that quickly understands household routines, puzzle games and certain simple instructions. Early socialization, daily playtime and consistent boundaries help it channel its energy and strong personality.

Budget

## Price and budget for the Siamese

The price of a Siamese varies mainly depending on the lineage, the breeder’s reputation, compliance with the standard, and the quality of the kitten’s health and social follow-up. A price that is too low compared with the market should always prompt you to check the origin and the guarantees provided.

Health

## Health at a glance

The Siamese generally enjoys good health, but like any selected breed, it may show certain predispositions that must be monitored with regular veterinary follow-up. Its lifestyle, its diet and the quality of the breeding play an important role in its longevity.

[Prevention and things to watch for](https://www.pedibase.com/en/cat-breed/siamese/health)

Nutrition

## Feeding your pet well

The Siamese’s diet must cover the needs of an active and muscular cat, with a base rich in high-quality animal proteins. Regularity of meals and the quality of ingredients matter more than the simple quantity given.

Did you know?

## Fun facts and popularity

The Siamese has long fascinated with its oriental appearance and its very recognizable voice. The breed was noticed in England as early as the first major cat shows and then served as the basis for the development of several other breeds such as the Balinese and the Oriental. Its intense blue gaze and its colourpoint coat have made it one of the most emblematic cats in the world.
