Feeding

# Feeding your Russian Blue well

Russia

Its diet must remain balanced, complete and adapted to its age, its activity and its body condition. It must provide quality proteins, fats without excess, as well as the necessary vitamins and minerals, while limiting the risk of overweight.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Kitten: Choose a complete food for growth, divided into several small meals and adjusted with the veterinarian.
- Adult: Measure the ration according to the target weight and activity in order to limit the risk of overweight.
- Senior: Have the energy intake, hydration and kidney function regularly reassessed by the veterinarian.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

Complete premium kibble adapted to the cat’s profile is a suitable choice. A complete wet diet can also contribute to water intake. A home-prepared ration is only conceivable if it is formulated with the help of a veterinarian in order to cover all nutritional needs.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount must be determined according to the energy density of the food, the target weight, age, neutering and activity level. It is advisable to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and then adjust with the veterinarian according to changes in weight and body condition.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2 - 3 kg | 40 - 60 g | 2 |
| 3 - 4 kg | 52 - 76 g | 2 |
| 4 - 5 kg | 64 - 92 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any change in diet must be carried out gradually over several days in order to limit digestive upsets. The proportion of the new food increases little by little while that of the old decreases.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Fresh, clean water must remain available at all times. Several water points, a fountain and a portion of wet food can encourage consumption, especially in a cat that does not drink much spontaneously.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats should remain occasional and be included in the daily energy intake. For this cat prone to weight gain, small portions and rewards used during play or care are preferable.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Measure the daily ration rather than filling the bowl freely.
- Adjust portions to body condition and activity level.
- Keep fresh water available at all times.
- Carry out any dietary transition gradually.

### Never feed these foods

Chocolate, onion, garlic, leek, grapes, alcohol, caffeine, xylitol, cooked bones and human medicines are dangerous for the cat and can cause severe poisoning. Any suspected ingestion requires prompt contact with a veterinarian.
