Feeding

# Feeding your Egyptian Mau well

Egypt

The Egyptian Mau needs a complete, good-quality diet to maintain its muscle mass without promoting weight gain. Its diet must remain adapted to its age, its physiological status and its activity level.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Kitten: A growth diet that is rich and split into several meals supports its development without excess.
- Adult: The ration must cover its energy needs while preventing weight gain, especially after sterilization.
- Senior: A more digestible food and regular veterinary follow-up help preserve its muscle mass and overall comfort.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

Premium kibble for an active cat may be suitable, ideally combined with a portion of wet food to support hydration. The essential thing is to choose a balanced diet, rich in animal proteins and well tolerated by the cat.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount depends mainly on weight, age, sterilization and activity. It must be adjusted according to the actual body condition rather than distributed in a fixed way all year round.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 3 - 4 kg | 54 - 78 g | 2 |
| 4 - 6 kg | 70 - 100 g | 2 |
| 6 - 7 kg | 86 - 121 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any dietary transition must be gradual over several days in order to avoid digestive disorders. Switching to a new recipe is done by mixing the old and the new food in increasing proportions.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Fresh, clean water must remain available at all times. A water fountain or adding wet food can help cats that do not drink much spontaneously.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats should remain occasional and be included in the calculation of the overall ration. They are particularly useful for play, enrichment and training, but an excess quickly promotes weight gain.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Weigh the ration regularly to avoid overdosing.
- Split the meals if the cat eats too quickly.
- Combine wet food and fresh water to promote hydration.

### Never feed these foods

In particular, you should avoid chocolate, onion, garlic, grapes, alcohol, coffee, cooked bones and very fatty or very salty foods, as they can cause digestive or neurological disorders or sometimes serious poisoning in cats.
