Origins

## Where does it come from?

The Cymric shares the same origins as the Manx and is said to have appeared on the Isle of Man, between England and Ireland. It corresponds to the semi-longhaired variety of the Manx and its name nevertheless refers to Cymru, the Celtic name for Wales. Selective breeding has fixed the mutation responsible for the partial or total absence of a tail, with several variants depending on the residual length. The breed mainly developed in North America during the second half of the 20e century.

Appearance

## What does it look like?

The Cymric is a cobby-type cat, well-muscled, compact and solidly built, with rounded lines and a slightly arched back. Its hind legs are longer than the front ones, which reinforces its powerful silhouette. Its head is broad and round, the cheeks are full, the ears medium to small in size and the eyes large and round. Its semi-long coat is silky, dense and has a thick undercoat, with a well-furnished ruff and breeches. Its best-known characteristic remains the absence of a tail, inherited from the Manx.

Temperament

## Temperament and personality

The Cymric is a calm, affectionate cat and very attached to its home. Loyal and protective, it greatly appreciates the company of its humans and does not cope well with long periods of solitude. It likes to play, climb and share family life while maintaining a balanced temperament. Often reserved with strangers, it is however gentle and close to the people it knows.

Affectionate Playful Intelligent Sociable

Living together

## Living with children and other pets

The Cymric lives very well indoors provided it has an enriched environment with a cat tree, scratching posts and observation areas. It readily alternates playtime and long resting phases close to its loved ones. Its sociability with children and other animals is generally good when introductions are done gradually. As it seeks presence and attention, it thrives better in an available household.

Training

## Training and socialization

The education of the Cymric relies mainly on consistency, environmental enrichment and positive reinforcement. From its arrival, it is useful to offer it stable reference points, daily play sessions and gentle habituation to brushing, handling and transport. This intelligent cat quickly understands the routines of the home, but it needs gentleness and patience rather than constraints.

Budget

## Price and budget for the Cymric

The Cymric remains a rare breed, which influences its purchase price and the availability of kittens. The cost varies mainly depending on the quality of the lineage, the seriousness of the breeding, compliance with the standard and the health monitoring offered.

Health

## Health at a glance

The Cymric is a generally robust cat, but its selection around the absence of a tail requires particular vigilance. Some individuals may present anomalies linked to the mutation of the Manx gene, with locomotor or digestive repercussions. Regular veterinary monitoring and serious selection of breeding cats are therefore essential.

Nutrition

## Feeding your pet well

The Cymric needs a complete, high-quality diet, adapted to its age, body condition and activity level. As the breed can gain weight easily, energy balance and portion control are particularly important.
