Feeding

# Feeding your Balinese well

United States

The Balinese must receive a complete and balanced diet, adapted to its age, its morphology, its activity level and its state of health. Maintaining a slender silhouette is a priority.

A menu for every age

## Their needs change as they grow

- Kitten: Choose a complete food for growth and split meals according to age and veterinary recommendations.
- Adult: Adjust the ration to ideal weight, neutering and activity in order to maintain a slender silhouette.
- Senior: Have the diet regularly reassessed according to weight, kidney function, dentition and overall condition.

Which food?

## Kibble, wet food, or homemade meals?

A complete cat food, dry, wet or mixed, is suitable if its composition covers the needs of a strict carnivore and if the ration is individually adapted. Wet food can contribute to water intake.

Portion sizes

## How much should you feed?

The daily amount must be calculated according to the energy density of the food, ideal weight, age, neutering and activity. The manufacturer's recommendations must be adjusted with the veterinarian according to changes in weight.

| Weight | Daily amount | Meals per day |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2 - 3 kg | 40 - 60 g | 2 |
| 3 - 4 kg | 52 - 76 g | 2 |
| 4 - 5 kg | 64 - 92 g | 2 |

Changing food

## How to switch foods successfully

Any change in diet must be gradual over several days in order to limit digestive upsets, by gradually increasing the proportion of the new food.

Hydration

## Don't overlook water

Fresh, clean water that is regularly renewed must remain available at all times. Several water points or a fountain can encourage drinking.

A little extra

## Treats in moderation

Treats should remain occasional and be deducted from the daily ration so as not to encourage weight gain.

Good habits

## Make mealtimes count

- Weigh the cat regularly and adjust the ration to its ideal weight.
- Measure the daily ration rather than filling the bowl freely.
- Provide fresh water at all times.
- Use food games to stimulate activity without increasing the ration.

### Never feed these foods

Chocolate, onion, garlic, leek, grapes, alcohol, caffeine, xylitol and cooked bones are dangerous for the cat and can cause poisoning or serious injuries. No human medication should be administered without veterinary advice.
