The breeding program is affiliated with the German Retriever Club and is therefore part of the FCI, VDH and JGHV. The goal is to produce healthy, eager-to-work dogs that retain the typical Chesapeake character while also being somewhat easy to handle. There is deliberately no distinction between working and show lines: The dogs should be versatile and also hold their own in the show ring. The breeding dogs are trained in mantrailing, target scent detection, dummy sport and hunting. The dogs live as part of the family and are close companions to the breeder, more than mere animals.
