The name of the kennel refers to the Nordheim ferry tower, a defining building of the locality; the designation has been internationally protected since January 2022. The dogs live in the house and on the farm and can move around freely there. Daily walks are also part of their everyday life. In addition, they are familiar with children as well as cats, horses and chickens, which are part of their usual surroundings. Vom Alten Fährturm breeds within the Deutscher Club für Berner Sennenhunde e.V. and is thus affiliated with the Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen and the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.
